PP Tank Lining Services

Polypropylene tank lining for vessels handling acids and solvents — custom fabrication, welding and testing by RK Rubber's Ahmedabad-based crews.

Polypropylene (PP) tank lining gives a lightweight, weldable thermoplastic barrier suited to a broad range of acids and solvents, and handles somewhat higher process temperatures than HDPE.

We fabricate PP sheet to the vessel geometry and weld it on-site, sizing panel layout and seam pattern to minimise joints in high-stress areas.

As with our HDPE work, every lining is custom-fabricated rather than pre-moulded, so it fits the actual as-built tank rather than a generic profile.

Industries & Applications

  • Chemical processing and storage
  • Solvent handling and recovery
  • Pharmaceutical and fine-chemical intermediates
  • Electroplating and surface treatment
  • Effluent treatment plants

Materials & Lining Systems

  • Polypropylene (PP) sheet, various thicknesses and grades
  • PP welding rod matched to sheet grade
  • Anchoring accessories for bonded installations

Resistance

Chemical

PP resists a broad range of acids and organic solvents as a material class, including some media that degrade HDPE more quickly.

Temperature

Generally tolerates higher continuous service temperatures than HDPE, though exact limits depend on grade and chemical exposure.

Abrasion

Reasonable resistance to mild abrasion; not intended for high-velocity slurry duty.

Surface Preparation

  1. 1Inspection of the parent tank structure and surface condition
  2. 2Anchor-point layout for bonded installations, or substrate cleaning for loose-fit systems
  3. 3Sheet layout and cutting to match tank geometry, nozzles and fittings

Installation Steps

  1. 1Fabrication of PP panels to the tank's internal profile
  2. 2Fitting and tack-welding of panels in sequence
  3. 3Full extrusion or hot-air welding of all seams
  4. 4Detailing around nozzles, manways and fittings for a continuous liner

Inspection & Testing

  • Spark (holiday) testing of welded seams
  • Vacuum-box testing of critical joints where specified
  • Visual inspection of weld beads and penetration details

Completion Time & Maintenance

Typically 4–12 working days depending on tank diameter, height and the number of nozzle penetrations to detail.

  • Periodic visual inspection for warping, seam separation or discolouration
  • Avoid mechanical impact and confirm chemical compatibility before introducing a new process stream
  • Prompt weld repair if any seam damage is found
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose PP or HDPE lining for my tank?

Both are weldable thermoplastics, but they differ in chemical and temperature tolerance for specific media — PP generally handles a wider range of solvents and slightly higher temperatures, while HDPE is often more economical for straightforward acid/alkali storage. We recommend a grade after reviewing your actual process chemistry and operating temperature.

Can PP lining be repaired if it's damaged?

Yes — localised damage can usually be cut out and re-welded in place, provided the surrounding lining is sound. We inspect the full liner during any repair visit to check for related wear elsewhere.

How is the finished lining tested?

Every weld seam is spark tested, with vacuum-box testing on critical joints where specified, before the vessel is returned to service.
